Hello and Welcome New Members!!!
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:49:02 AM »
Hi,

My name is Alan, I am sixty three and I would just like to say hello, I am in the UK and I am a transport enthusiast, I work as a volunteer on the South Devon Railway which is a preserved railway, I build O gauge model trains and make parts for older model cars made by Victory Industries.
My favorite car marque is Jowett and I saw a post from Dec 2011 on one of the Jowett CD prototypes. The correct registration for this was JKU 399 and it was a Jade green metallic saloon with brown interior. I used to own one of the prototypes and as you may know several are still in existence in New Zealand.

Regards

Alan ;)

Welcome Alan.  Another '49er - like me!
I hope you find plenty to interest you here.
I had a Jowett puzzle solved just this week - the ERA Javelin prototype, which you will find in the Solved section.
Anything you could add would be very welcome - especially pictures!

Regards

Welcome, Alan.  If I understand Norman's message correctly, then the 3 of us (and several others) are of roughly the same vintage (I'm a 1947 model with high mileage).  The railroading passion is something I understand, although I'm too involved with other stuff (like Land Speed Racing) to return to that arena....but I still remember the sights and sounds of Union Pacific "Big Boys" (4-8-8-4 articulated) as well as feeling the ground shake as they'd begin their climb through Weber Canyon in northern Utah on their way across the Wasatch mountains.  They  made their last runs over that route in 1959 when I was 12.  But I digress (as usual.)

I hope you enjoy your membership here.  It's a kool (although sometimes maddening) place and there's more cumulative automotive knowledge here than any other place I can think of.

Best regards,

I have found some more info on that car and will upload some photos when I find out how to do that!

Hi PJ,

Yes very interesting and accurate, there is [as you probably know] a lot of misinformation on the rarer cars, Jowett being no exception.

Ray,

I see that one of the seven preserved 4000 class "Big Boys" maybe returning to steam in 2019. Apparently Union Pacific has budgeted millions of dollars to restore one of the Alco built machines with No.4014 as being the favorite!

Cheers

Al
