Karn,

How about putting a button in the side nav for the Meet-Up at the Vintage Grand Prix so we can use the feature box for our Le Mans coverage?

John and I are in serious training for the drinking competition at  Watkins Glen. Our training has been hard and arduous purely, you understand, for the cause. It has truly been a difficult period for us. We arrive now on the 4th September since our flight has been cancelled on the Monday and we will be at the circuit from Wednesday onwards to reconnoitre the (nonexistent according to MG) bars and to properly warm up the beer reserves. For those wondering what I look like picture a cross of Godzilla with King Kong with a little bit of the Gorgon and you've got it. To make things simple, since someone like that won't stand out too much to make things simple I shall be wearing an Ecurie Ecosse D type T shirt on the Friday if you are arriving then. Do we have any idea how many of us are going yet? Some seemed desirous but failed to commit earlier this year. The dollar is at a 25 yr low so for us everything will seem half price but we shall manfully attempt to drain the bars or perhaps die in the attempt. Unfortunately the four letter word work will crop up and I shall be elsewhere with my press passes doing photography and interviews from time to time, but since racing is a day time occupation (unlike Le Mans) there will be time for R&R in the evenings. I look forward to hearing from you real men.

I do intend on making the sojourn.  My wardrobe, however, at this time is still yet to be determined.  I hope to arrive on Friday and return Sunday's eve.  Finances shall dictate camping for me.  I, too, shall look forward to a proper reconnoitering of the local watering holes.  I expect a lifetimes training should leave me in good stead.

Looking forward to seeing which one of us hits the floor first.  :drink:

I recommend the Seneca lodge for the purposes of quaffing a pint or two.  I do not recommend it for the food, as the fact that it's filling is high praise, nor for *shudder* sleeping.

The bar at the Seneca, however, is worth seeing. There aren't many bars in this world that have signed race slicks, Jackie Stewart's laurel wreath from the F1 race in the 70's and about a zillion arrows shot into the wall behind the bar. Ambiance? Yeah, it's got that. The beer even tastes slightly of Castrol R. Plus, if you ask nicely to see the thumb, the bartender will show you something that you will not see in other bar in the world. Of course, if you find mummified digits mounted on plaques distasteful, you might want to skip that part.  Even better, the bartender will put videos of vintage racing on the tube so you can see how the boys did it way back when.

If you're there, you should definitely check it out.

Well, it doesn't seem as if there is much response to this at all sadly. I leave for Goodwood in a few hours and then to NY and the lakes on Tuesday 4th. If anyone is going I shall be staying at the Red house Country in and you can leave a message for me there. Say where you wish to meet and when. Tel:- 607-546-8566. We are there until the monday morning.

If money allows it, I will be there.   Money is very tight right now.
