"Missing" posts
« on: October 20, 2011, 10:14:26 AM »
Strange happenings?
This morning I had 6,666 posts and when I looked again this afternoon the number was 6,661 posts.

Can anyone explain this anomaly?
I have no chance of trying to find these "missing" posts amongst such a high number.

I have to add that I didn't log out, log in, try to post anything except to look at "unread" posts.
This is my first post today.

Weird.

I can't find whcgt's puzzle.

The one with a green truck.

That's a head-scratcher.

I wonder if somebody is having a tantrum, in the form of deleting his threads, and thereby, the posts of others to those threads...

Thanks Otto, let's hope that it solves the problem.

All,

After being warned to stop insulting other members (attacking their age, among other things - a second offense after a previous temporary ban), whcgt began to systematically delete his own puzzles, including the replies of others to his puzzles (see the green truck reference, above).

Before he got too far with his slash-and-burn efforts, I banned him again.

This time it's for good.

I also noticed a complete thread missing, in the Sports Cars section.
Suddenly mine was the last post again (a thread about the Ginetta T11) when previously there had been a later thread about a red VW kit car (a thread in which I had posted).

I did think it very odd.

whcgt was indeed a bit of a strange guy, albeit a real car nut..
So all his outstanding puzzles have vanished?

Looks like he already intended to take his bat and ball home with him then...!

Too bad, I was intrigued by that Helloween hearse thingy. But it is true that sometimes he acted very strangely

I suspect what upset him was PJ's 414!  He was so convinced he had the answer that he couldn't accept it could be something different.

I had awful trouble with him when I posted a puzzle of an electric car which used an Invader body.  He was insistent that he got the point, because it was indeed an Invader body, but the point of AP is that things are not always what they seem to be.  He couldn't accept that the answer was something else just using an Invader body, and he got very personal..  That wasn't the only time, but it was the worst.

I've had similar encounters with him, sometimes in posts, and other times via PM's. He would ask me to intervene on his behalf, when he thought he was due a point. The post he deleted from the news section was just bizzarre. He told people they were too 'nit picky', and suggested the reason might be that they were too elderly to drive and enjoy cars any more.

Per e-mails and PM's I've gotten from others, his ranting and rage at others were an ongoing thing. I believe he had problems in his personal life that bubbled up into his membership here. I hope he gets his issues sorted out. Life is tough enough without manufacturing additional angst.

I hope that was not the case.
I'll miss his puzzles.

I agree with Otto regarding the ban. That said, let's try not to bash in absentia. Nothing good can come of it.

Well I didn't intend to denigrate him and I do feel sorry for the guy.
I enjoyed many of his puzzles as well.

Do you know where my puzzle No 255 disappeared?

was its URL but it's gone now. It was not a repost, so it is strange

Along these same lines, what happened to the puzzle about the 1958 Corvette? It was asking what was unique about this otherwise stock-appearing car. The puzzle was up until today, as far as I can find.  Gone?  Why?
