As we just saw, no point in putting on "Hemmings" one that's just been solved here if you also tell 'em where to look!

I didn't tell em where to look and it got solved here right after I submitted it.

My Bean-bodied FIAT!

There was a reference to Autopuzzles with it IIRC which told 'em where it was worth looking.

Charles-
I meant to tell you yesterday, before I had to rebuild my computer's
email program, that I won't be in this Thursday or Friday, so if you
could send the AutoPuzzler for this week either today or tomorrow, I'd
appreciate it. Sorry for the short notice.
thanks,
dan

I dug through my archives, Most I've already posted here or don't hold the copyright to. I did come across one, though. It's either a give-away or annoyingly difficult, depending on your perception and familiarity with the mark in question. And it's my personal pic, so we're in the clear on that score :

Suggested hint:

Name that door frame, and name those who crawled through it one day. There are clues buried in, on, and around this heavily cropped picture, so get digging.

Answer PM'd to Ultra to thwart those who might come digging here :)

I don't see new Friday-Autopuzzlers on the Hemmings blog. Why? Was it too much work? I am ready to help, although I don't quite understand the copyright problem.

Is there a connection (lack of publicity) with the fact that there seem to be a serious rookie shortage lately: about the same number of members since weeks.
There maybe another reason for that: I checked that by, on Google advanced search, the designation of a car from the solved puzzles. It almost never leads me to autopuzzles.com. Even less if you do it in the image search.
Can anything be done about that?

Yeah, I recently found out that, too. It wasn't like that before - if you searched for a car you'd get to the forum - but now you don't get a hit on the web page even if you search specifically within autopuzzles.com through Google. Very strange.

I think the Google problem is related to the red-herring names given to the posted puzzle pictures. Maybe, going forward, we could caption the solved puzzle with the make and model of car. Not sure if that would work.

If you'd like to start writing features for AutoPuzzles, puzzles for Hemmings, or contributing in other ways beyond the great puzzles you present, that would be welcome, indeed. As my long exile from Detroit is about over, I hope to be writing, posting and updating the site much more often, as well.

Well, I'm not sure, even less if it worked before as @re says. Here is how I checked it: I pasted in the "exact phrase" frame, for instance "Solved! MG Prototype ADO35" (to pick a puzzle solved long enough ago, so Google has had time to scan it. I don't keep the characters like # in case it might cause a problem). This one gets a hit in the Google advanced search, but none in the image advanced search. I explain that by the fact that maybe the image is too far from the title. Maybe... I've seen many cases where Google points to an image quite far from the phrase you search.
But if I search the more recent "1922 New Hudson, London Edinboro model", for instance,  I get 0 hit in the autopuzzles.com domain.

Besides, if we don't keep the "Puzzle #1055" or so in the caption of the solved puzzles, it will be hard for puzzlers to keep track of the ones they're trying to solve, won't it?

I'm not suggesting removing the name or number of the puzzle from the post. Rather, I think putting the name of the car immediately below the picture once the puzzle is solved.

Example:

Thanks. I just checked the copyright problem in all the posts in this topic and I don't think I can get over that. The puzzles I propose come from the net or are scanned in my books or old magazines. Too bad.

Yes, great idea, worth a try.
Only thing is, you'll have to explain us how you do it. The "modify" button, sure, but most of us, it seems, don't know how to place the pic ABOVE the text as you do, which is much better.

Well, being an admin, I have the luxury of loading the pics on the server. However, if you have the picture on photobucker or another picture upload site, it would work just as well. Your post would be writtind like this:

Quote

Know what it is?

Please, respond below and let us know the make and model designation of the car posted here.

If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so in order to reply with your answer.  You can do so by clicking here.

Also, please be sure to check out our other puzzles, and, please post a puzzle of your own if you'd like - the more, the merrier. :D

Thanks!

You would need to put the correct location and file name in, of course. And remove the "quote" modifiers.  :)

What is "PM"? Don't forget I'm a frenchie, and besides I don't know (and don't care much to know) the meaning of many internet abreviations (LOL, BTW, IMHO and so on).
For the picture upload sites, sorry, I'm not to inclined to do it this way. I like my pics better on my hard drive, and I'm already busy too many hours with that stuff.

Understood. I think the pictures look fine in either location (top or bottom of post). Please keep them coming.
