AutoPuzzles, 2010
« on: June 09, 2010, 04:47:26 AM »
A synopsis of the site circa June, 2010 with a hopeful vision of the future.   As we near the end of our fourth year of publishing a webzine I thought it would be a good time to lay out where we are and where I hope we go.  That said:

Otto Puzzell and I are the co-founders of the site. I am the owner and publisher.  Otto is the Chief Editor and is responsible for the content of the front page.  This appointment/responsibility is lifetime unless resigned.  All of the other admin's are Managing or Contributing Editors to the webzine that is AutoPuzzles.  As the site has grown the pool to draw topics from has gotten larger and that has added depth to our overall content.  I think as a site ideas like the following will effectively further the webzine concept.  For example, create a "Rare Car of the Week" feature in which the story and details of the car featured in one of our solved puzzles is fleshed out and then link it all to the front page.  It would be a great way of using the database to promote itself and giving us endless new content. The Solved Puzzles is a DEEP well we can use for content. I think we could all brainstorm and come up with some excellent ways to use it to further the site as a webzine with very little "real work."  I also think regular book reviews are another possible feature for the AutoPuzzles webzine and are already starting to write themselves around here.

I would think any ideas about the site as a whole should always be thought of in the concept of a webzine.  In the long run this place will end up a direct competitor with the print magazine world of today just as sites like Jalopnik have done.  Whether it be for space on peoples web devices or for ad dollars it is already happening.  I firmly believe that.  I think the community that continues to find its way here will become the world recognized leaders of rare car information and discussion and that automotive knowledge base will end up drawing/luring the car loving community the world over.  Regularly.  As more members come the automotive content here starts to grow faster than it ever could at a magazine with a staff of employees.  I think we should always think about this place with those type of long term goals as part of the overall direction of the site.

Please folks.  Help us make this the best auto site on the web.  We can only do it with you.  Sharing your ideas, pictures, writings, drawings and anything else automotive is the way.  Share your thoughts and ideas.  Please.

Thanks for being a part of AutoPuzzles.  We are all really glad you are here.

Very cool, Ultra.

I know I don't contribute all that much here, but I sure enjoy the puzzles and topics that I see.

Those are some wise words :)

I haven't contributed much in the recent months, but AP is still one of the most important places for me in the great wide web. And I would like for it to become an important place for many many more automotive enthusiasts, so I'll certainly think of some (hopefully good ;) ) ideas to develop, promote, augment, enrich, improve and whatmore the AutoPuzzles. Now excuse me, I need to go find my head, I haven't used it for quite some time...

PS: I've just noticed that I passed the 1000 posts mark, this is post no. 1001  :cheer:

It's not denial, I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

Hi Don,

I always thought that such a nice (and rare) car deserves more attention:
there are 2 pages on Booij's book 'Maximum Mini' (and I'm sure you know it :) ), few lines on the Beaulieu (and Georgano's previous encyclopedia, 'the new encyclopedia'), few lines on 'British Specialst Cars' and a tiny pic on 'A to Z of Sports cars' and 'The Filby Files Vol.2'...
It's a privilege to have info from one of the owner of a car made in only 4 exemplars and I'll be glad to know more about it.
If you allow me, I can use the info you'll give me to write an article on Autopuzzles and post it in the new "Rare car of the week" thread...or I can just keep it for me...or you can post the info yourself (http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=7886.0).
I'd love to see some pics of it, even pics of the good-old-days...Is your car the one found by Needham in Sheffield in 2007? I read that 1 of them should be in Singapore, one in Japan and another in America.
Thank you for your email, and congratulations for your wonderful car!

Ciao,
Francesco, PJ

He wrote me back few ours ago, but no-pics so far and few info.
I asked again if I can use it for an update here.
