I think it is a pre war SIATA-Fiat raced after the war in Austria. Such car drove at the 1940 Mille Miglia or the Pescara sports car race. In Germany Reichenwallner had such a car in 1938 and Schmidt from Potsdam too.

Can I be curious here? I just saw this photo and would like to learn more about this car. It may have been a subject of a puzzle here. I know what the information table next to the car says, but I am sure there's more to this story. So who can tell me more about this car? 1st point goes to the one who identifies the place and the basic info, but for more details I am willing to hand out a 2nd point too

This Fiat is on display in the Automuseum in Engstingen, Germany. The car is listed as Fiat Sport 1942 and it also says that it is the most exceptional car in the museum.

It's not entirely unlike the rebodied 508D found in a Belgian scrapyard and usually attributed to Bidee or De Mola.

I am trying to find more about it, but the only source seems to be the sign at the museum in Engstingen. Apparently this is the only survivor of three prototypes and was restored by a collector named Siegfried Stotz who found it in a scrap yard near Vienna. The Stotz collection later moved to the Engstingen museum.

I find rather doubtful that Fiat had the time to build a sports car in 1942, with Italy involved in a rather difficult war. They had enough problems in building lorries, aircraft etc.
The base car is certainly a Fiat 508c or 1100A (pedals, gearchange lever, handbrake)
Seats, wheel trims and rear lights are modern additions, the instruments are also rather doubtful and the rear view mirror is not in keeping with the car. The steering wheel is fitted upside down.
On top of that the car looks rather ugly and amateurish..
I add that these are my personal opinions and I stand to be corrected.

This car reminds me of the Mahringer Fiat 1100 Special, that raced in Austria in the late 1940s - which would fit into the Austrian trace mentioned before.

And now we have it. It was my own puzzle years ago, the Mahringer where Fabrizio/Paul Jaray posted the photo of the car from the museum. Now we came full circle

Another point to you and now I merge the topics.

Also the museum has been closed last year so the car will be sold soon
