So the name is related more to a marine creature?

yes, the lock is 10 days old so it'd have expired, but in theory it belong to Djetset. Anyhow, not a Dolphin. Djetset, should I unlock?

Yes, fine to unlock thanks as I’ve got nowhere with this one, but I appreciate you holding it for a while Pal.

Whale is correct, but the Chinese name was not Jingyu and there is the little matter of the model name. So locked for you to sort this out

That’s why I mentioned Jiangnan in a previous post as it relates to the Chinese word for whale.

Was the Chinese name Lán Jīng (blue whale)?

The Chinese word got nothing to do with whale at all. Whale was used because it was easier to pronounce.

You would think this might be easy for me, considering 1) I'm the only member of my household who does not speak Mandarin and 2) as a family, we have far more relatives living in China than in the US. Alas, they are not 'car people' and so none of them have ever heard of this automotive cetacean.

I doubt I'll be solving this one soon, so please unlock.

I’ve tried both logical and illogical internet searches but come up with nothing so far, so a different approach...

Is this incredibly bland car based around an equally anonymous sedan from Japan?

Golly, so that's what is was! Well done again for posting one of the most anonymous cars ever to appear here on AP  :D.

A few further questions about this dull machine if I may as it intrigues me. So, I guess the three-letter 'code' name you referred to was WHJ (?). Does this still exist today in a current Chery model, as I can't find anything. Also, to my earlier question, do you know what existing car this was based around? I'm assuming it was something equally dull and forgettable such as a Toyota Corolla or Nissan Sunny/Sentra. Thanks.

According to a nice forum on Chinese cars, in 2015: "NDRC Notice #271 lists a new vehicle WHJ6440 which I find is nothing but a Kaiyi (Cowin) branded version of the extended-length Karry Youyou (SQR6440K06)"

The Wei'er (Whale) was produced by the People's Liberation Army No 5720 Works in Wuhu City

The sedan was probably based on a Toyota Corolla
