Strange but a search through google patents, which has most patent text available fails to turn up anything for John Ingram apart from 1892 for locking nuts and in the last few years for someone working for Ocado.
Nothing under retractatop either.....

The advert posted by gte mentions that the project can't be all that old (assuming the magazine is from the 1960s or 70s) because of the London phone number shown.
London  numbers only changed to all-figure in 1966, so the project must date from 1966 or later.

Wow, how on earth did you manage to find that, as I took this (some time ago) from an old Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club magazine, and could find no mention of John Ingram or his patented Retractatop saloon anywhere on line!

Thanks for the point! Of course, the Nov-Dec 1992 issue of the RREC Bulletin is exactly where I found it. The following appeared in the subsequent issue (Jan-Feb 1993):

Thanks for the extra patent information, and interesting to see that Ingram used a Jaguar S-Type-esque profile base for his Retractatop concept.
