Defensive driving

We are all drivers here so let’s hear from you, your driving tips.
I started at a very young age when my father would encourage me to spot possible hazards and I would be encouraged to spot hazards
My 3 basic rules are
1 Be able to stop in half the visible clear distance ahead
2  Give way to every thing on your side of the car
3  Road courtesy
So after 55 year of driving the only prang I had was from a fleeing robber pursued by the cops, - and the odd scratched bumper
So here are some of my lesser rules
If you approach an empty intersection and are first there and have  green light  be extra observant as some one may be texting and think they have also a green light and will not notice you.#$

Keeping to a flow of traffic on a congested road  is safer than some  remote alternative route as the uncontrolled intersections  are potentially more hazardous that a controlled one.
When approaching a red light drift slowly up to  the stopped traffic   if you actually don’t have to stop you can save 10% of your fuel (from my electric vehicle driving)

Get a back seat driver to walk

In suburban streets watch out for kids and cars parked

There are many others more mundane such as your brake pedal is faster to use than the horn button

Accelerating away faster that all the rest gets you where you are not expected to be and another person up the road  may think they have time to do some thing
(A major cause of motor bike prangs)

So if you agree or disagree with the above or have your favorite defensive idea lets have your opinion
the impossible immediately miracles a little longer

My favorite defensive driving suggestion is to not drive at all.

On the bike I do whatever it takes to get as far from traffic as possible.   Let's hear it for excessive HP!!!!
