The Fall of an Empire
« on: December 28, 2006, 01:56:38 PM »
The following links are on the frontpage of Drudge today.  They portend the beginning of the end, to me anyway, of the American empire.  In historical terms, the domination of a currency in markets has always been synonymous with that currencies sponsoring government being the dominant power in the world.  With the Euro supplanting the American dollar at the top of currency markets, the American government is going to find it much more difficult to print dollars with which it can use to pay it's debts.  Once it can not spend it's way to power like a drunken sailor, the real crunch will hit here.  When oil is traded in Euros instead of Dollars, the free for all will begin.

Read all about it!  The Fall has begun.

You COULD read Zbigniew Brezizinski's book like I suggested.  Being the King of the Mountain may involve more than just throwing one's weight around.

But I agree with your observations.

I believe it was the subject of a thread entitled "Dear Powers That Be...." in which I suggested a book forum - an idea that YOU PERSONALLY shot down!    :ranton:

Which just goes to prove my point.    :lmao:

Anyway, it is entitled "The Choice: Global Domination or Global Leadership."  I found it enlightening, profound and well written.  Your mileage may vary.

So, how about that forum for books so they don't get lost in the forest of General Discussion?    ;D

In that thread you never mentioned what book you were refering to.

A book thread would be nice.  Maybe MG will start one now.

Man, at my age, it is tough keeping information straight. I KNOW I mentioned it here SOMEPLACE because KU said he was gonna read it just as soon as Haley's Comet returns.  Perhaps it was in a thread in General Discussion entitled The Best Book I Have Read This Year or something like that.

In any event, it IS an excellent book, despite the fact that Rich cannot spell the poor man's name!    ::)

His thesis is pretty much summed up in the title:

1. We ARE the pre-eminent country, economy and society presently extant in the entire whole big world.

2. If we continue to act like arrogant assholes, we will absolutely sow the seeds of our own eventual destruction.

3. If we elect instead to be LEADERS rather than bullies, which implies treating other countries, other people and other cultures with dignity and respect and are willing to incorporate them into our global vision, we could continue our world position for quite some time to come.

It is fairly obvious which path the author thinks our country is pursuing at present..... :(

Having read what he has to say, I have to agree with him that poking really sharp sticks in the eyes of your friends and neighbors is NOT a good long term strategy. A modicum of leadership WOULD be a welcome change, imho.

Does this mean you are not going to start a book thread?

 ;)

Your description of the book makes it sound reasonable.   Are you feeling okay?

My dear sir:

Although I do indeed have the POWER to create such a forum, I would consider it extremely rude of me to do so. Sort of like me coming over to your house and re-arranging the furniture. I appreciate that you guys think I am worthy of being an administrator, but I am not comfortable mucking about with the attractive and fun setting you and KU have created for us.  Unlike George Bush, I recognize that HAVING the power does NOT necessitate the USE of that power.  So, no. I will not be re-arranging your furniture any time soon.

In any event, it IS an excellent book. Well researched, well documented and well written. I recommend it to anyone who has an attention span of more than .......Ohhhhhhh!  Shiny!!!!!    :hah:

Seems as though Bete Noire made the same observation about the currencies long ago on a forum far, far, away! :-\

Yes he did.  I agreed with him then, too.

He checked into AW's second forum incarnation a couple times after the first CC went down.  Other than that, nary a peep.
