What about the AutoRama in Feburary?  It is, in all likelyhood, a much better show and a much better time.

Anybody have any experience with a '95 Ford Taurus?

Dan

Sadly, yes.

Perhaps we should start a support group.

I briefly owned an 88 wagon with the usual shaky transmission and also the head gasketblowing 3.8L V6. My Dad owned a 97 wagon which had a power seat that almost killed me once - moved all the way forward by its self crushing my legs as I drove down the highway.

I'm asking because I saw a rather nice looking one at a dealership the other day while shopping with my son.  We're trying to replace the oil-burrning, tranny-damaged Dodge truck I've mentioned here.  The Taurus  has about 60,000 miles, is very clean, and the engine sounds smooth[haven't driven it yet...].  It's a 3.0 litre.  Asking price is about 3500 dollars.  Consumer Reports rates the car pretty highly, FWIW...of course, even a pogo stick would be better than that truck...

Maybe it's a car to avoid.

Feb is historically my regular visit to the parental units in Mesa....If anything, will be having to look towards fall...

The 3.0 is more reliable than the notorious 3.8. Watch out for a slipping transmission -- the slushbox is the main downfall of these cars. With my '95 SHO, electrical gremlins were the biggest problem -- the car spent probably three months in the shop over two years.

The rumored budgetary crunch of Big Dick Inc. is not a rumor.  I should know more (or less) about me going as the year progresses.  Truthfully, the stay in Glacier sounds more fun.....

The transmission is a real sore point - they have an internal design flaw so they all fail eventually. 1995 saw an improvement as well as 2003.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AXOD_transmission for a little bit of detail. Fwd + V6 in almost all brands is generally not a great combo until recently.

That said my Dad's old 97 is running well for my brother.

I checked into the Wikipedia article... The car has a lot of invoices in the glovebox regarding oil changes, tire replacements, etc.  Apparently, the previous owner was a stickler for preventative maintenance, which was another plus for me.  I would want to make sure the transmission fluid was changed at 30,000 miles before buying.  Thanks for the info about the trans.
