I just want the weather to change out here for the good for good....I've had my bike out enough just to get hungry for lots more....

BTW, guys, am working on details of the route; rule of thumb at this point from much more experienced bikers than I is that 250 miles/day is about the max when sightseeing...also that superslabbing it is the least desirable way to go (knew that before I started asking)....

Everyone got their endorsements?  H-D rental here won't let you ride w/o it.  Have four bikes reserved: two Ultra Classics and two Softail DeLuxes....getting the dealer rate for them too, btw, given that I've spent zillion$ at my local dealer and know the owner....

June 28th is coming...........

Too rich for my blood.

The Honda will have 14,000 to 15,000 miles on it when I get out west.

There's been a little paperwork SNAFU (probably my fault) and I won't be working at Many Glacier this summer unless someone else quits. At this point I'll either be in Missoula for summer quarter or at Lake McDonald on the west side of the park. Either way I'll do everything in my power to make sure I can meet up with y'all. Let me know what your dates are for the Montucky portion of the ride. Charlie knows my phone #.

I just got back last night from a spring break trip to Steamboat Springs. Seems I left that town with a lot fewer brain cells than I arrived with, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world. Aside from being one of America's greatest ski towns it's also one of the hardest partying places this side of Cancun. Ski Time Square is a strip of bars that could put a Big Ten college town to shame, and they're not your typical yuppie ski town bars. Lupo's is where the locals hang out -- it's on the second floor of a nondescript building and there's no conspicuous sign, so naturally it's the coolest bar in town. Cold beer, plenty of pool tables, and good tunes in the jukebox. So of course it goes without saying that a developer has purchased the entire strip and plans to bulldoze it to make way for more luxury condos, turning Steamboat into yet another carbon copy of Vail. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

On top of all that, I got to see my beloved Buckeyes advance to the finals for the first time since 1962, only to barely lose to Florida. I honestly expected to see them get blown out, but watching them hang in there until the final five minutes really toyed with my emotions. My hatred of the SEC, and the Gators in particular, is growing by the day.

As I said in my post above, "I'll do everything in my power to make sure I can meet up with y'all." Glacier is a day trip from Missoula. Plus, if you're coming up to the park from the south, I'm on the way.

According to sources close to the DBMC road captain, entering the park from the south is the only way to fly....

The west entrance serves as the park's main gateway. You'll probably enjoy coming up highway 93 from Missoula, stopping at Flathead Lake -- the largest naturally occurring freshwater lake west of the Mississippi -- maybe making a stop in Whitefish as well. From there, take highway 2 to West Glacier and head on it. I'd ordinarily recommend a side trip to the isolated town of Polebridge, but it involves driving 20 miles on dirt roads. I've heard it from a good source that, despite the flood damage, the Sun Road will be open no later than July 1st. If it isn't open, the drive around the southern end of the park on US 2 is quite enjoyable, and the drive time is similar to cutting through the park. The drive from East Glacier to St. Mary is also a must-see, with a stop in the Two Medicine valley.

Bring a big memory card for your camera.

Dunno....couldn't find another dealer who was willing/able to rent...the Honda would be fine w/ me....

The other thing that's a possibility:  My father-in-law has decided to be safe (he recently fell at work and he, like many of us, isn't as resilient as he used to be) and run behind us in a chase vehicle (i.e., my wife's Titan).  Mike loves this kind of traveling and probably was hoping for same all along (Freud always said there are no accidents).  Not sure how a hippie cheese-eating librul and a dyed in the wool two tour Vietnam vet who luvs his red state and all it stands for might do for three/four days in the cab of the Titan, but if worse came to worst, you could always ride in the back seat w/ the headphones and watch a DVD or six.... :-\

Ahhhh.....I ain't skeered. Something will work out. What I really WOULD like to happen is for you to latch on to a Miata for sale in the O Boy Sea area with a hardtop that I could drive for the trip and then drive home, keep the top and sell the car.  But that propably is a BIT too optimistic, I suppose.  Anyway, this sounds like a once in a lifetime trip. I'll be there, God willing and the creek don't rise. Also, if TR4 LETS me go....... ::)

D'ya want me to look?  More than happy to....and there's likely a number of Mormiatas out here that have been lovingly guided under the hand of Heavenly Father, donchyaknow....

Frankly, I don't care what anyone's riding/driving/rowing...I'm just looking forward to the trip w/ y'all and finally getting to shake a couple/few hands I've wanted to since CC1....my biggest disappointment is the likelihood I won't hit Canuckia and meet the Mysterious Mr. Dent.

Shame you won't make it here but sounds like great fun. I'm planning a road trip next year when (if  ??? ) I can finish my Seven this year. I'm hoping to get one of those small aero bike trailers to pull behind.

Might end up driving to Texas this year in the minivan with three kids. We were going to fly but all the issues involved with getting a newborn a passport (especially the offical photo - need to have their eyes open, not crying, etc and by the time you get the passport back the photo has expired - arg). He was just born last week.

Some little place near (ish) to Dallas - the name escapes me at the moment but basically we are going visit some of the wife's relatives - first in California (take kids to Disney Land) and then to her Granparents farm in Texas.

Hopefully on Friday. I think I might just duck into the border and head back. Lots of work, new baby, etc. I'll make up my mine one way or another tommorow - still need to make sure the warehouse is open being a long weekend and all for some.

GRAYWOLF - I'll let you know closer to the time.

I think I'm going to just head to the warehouse in Sweetgrass and come back. He's only open for all of two hours tommorw which makes any other plans hard.
