Israel has shot itself in the foot here.  Couldn't happen to a nicer rogue nation.

That reminds me.

A rabbi is walking into a railway station in Germany. At the platform he asks a man: "As you might be able to see, I am a rabbi, I am Jewish. What do you think of my religion?". The man says "In Germany especially we should all be very understanding for the Jewish religion. History and all that". The rabbi answers "thank you" and walks on. He asks a second man what he thinks of Jewishm. The man replies "I'm a big fan of Israel, and I think they should kick those Palesine butts!". Again the rabbi thanks and walks on to a third man. He asks the question once again. The third man hesitates and says "I find you guys a bit spooky and I don't hold much of Jewishm". The rabbi says "You seem like an honest man. Could you please watch over my luggage when I go in the toilet?"

Want some European advice, huh?

I loveAutogids' story a lot. I think that it should be Israel's motto for the next 50 years, and everything  whould get better in the area.

PS) My other 2 cents: Where was the outrage when North Korean Navy did something, not so long ago?

Excellent point.  It turns out the US government was far more concerned with this than the South Koreans. They have been living with this agitation from the North for several generations now and expect a confrontation every once in a while. When the US started rattling sabers, the SK leaders asked us to "cool it."

If you  believe that GWB gave the order to invade Iraq because Saddam Hussein was a "brutal dictator" ( I personally think that is a steaming pantload of horseshit), then Hussein should have been about 3rd or 4th on the list of brutal dictators with Kim Jong-Il at the very top of the list and the leaders of Sudan, Somalia and Myanmar following closely behind.

North Korea is the scariest country on the planet and has been for at least 20 years. But nobody has the balls to take it on. The US has only shown a willingness to attack the weak, like Panama, Grenada and Iraq. All bullies are cowards at heart. What does that say about the US????    :(

How fitting! Some say Yada means knowledge, you apparently Yada Yada is something else completely...

Yadda, yadda, yadda is a phrase from the TV show "Seinfeld", which may or may not have made it to your neighborhood. Loosely translated, it means, "Whatever". Which makes it just about the polar opposite of "yada".

It apparently is OP's way of dissing me for daring to criticize the United Stated of Amurrica, the greatest country that ever was or ever will be, the nation that has brought peace and prosperity to all the world in the 70 years since it first blossomed into a world power after WW II.

OP doesn't like it when people speak ill of his country. He prefers to think of his Emperor as being fully clothed in the finest regalia at all times.    :-\

Yadda yadda yadda was in existence before Seinfeld. I remember it being used in the early nineties.

I did get that feeling that being critical is sometimes met by hostilty.

The US is resting on its laurels. We HAD an opportunity to exert a tremendous positive influence on the world when the Soviet Union collapsed. But we decided to gorge ourselves on BMW's, 10,000 square foot homes and lattes instead. Not to mention tech stocks and real estate. Rather than provide global leadership, we elected to pursue global domination. Instead of ideas, we flooded the world with TV shows like Sex And The City, American Idol and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? We followed that up with an onslaught of gansta rap and memorable movies like Dumb & Dumber, Part II. We have been profligate with our moral capital and have thereby let the opportunity slip through our fingers. It was an opportunity that will not come our way again.

The US today is economically, morally and politically bankrupt. Hardly a prescription for a so-called "world leader", is it?   ???

But such words are anathema to the populace, who cannot fathom why we shouldn't be able to continue our profligate ways in perpetuity. The most common expression one hears is "Hey. This is AMURRICA!!!!" As if that removes us from ever having to give an accounting of ourselves.

America IS a great country with a tremendous amount of creative energy to be tapped. It is stuffed full of good hearted people. There WAS a window in time when we were, to use the popular expression, THE SHIT!  But that time has come and gone. We are just another country among many now. We don't like saying so. But it's long past time for us to grow up and act like a mature society, instead of one that thinks it is somehow "exceptional" and exempt from all the things that brought the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the British Empire, among others, to their knees.

Everything you need to know about global affairs can be gleaned from a close reading of "The Three Little Pigs".

I was "yadda-ing" a few things, from a few different corners of our group.

1. Rabbis are men of faith, first, and defenders of Israel second.

2. Jewish and Israeli are not automatically interchangeable.

3. I don't mind criticism of the US, or American, or me, MG. I do wonder if perhaps your seemingly automatic self-crucifixion and mea-culpas on behalf of all of us American sinners hasn't become chronic. I am glad to see my 'yadda' briefly got your attention. I'd sincerely like to hear your viewpoint on what is or was the most noble and laudable nation or people, since you have repeatedly told us all which nation and people are not.

As to welcoming criticism or bristling at criticism, perhaps not toeing the party line or following group-think is my crime. Having witnessed how some folks get tossed from forums for daring to not follow the herd, perhaps I should just shut my big mouth, and get in line.  :-X

1 and 2. A joke is not supposed to be analyzed in depth.

A Dutch "cabaretist" once said "If you think long enough about something, you'll always find something that does not seem to be fitting. Think about, it always fits"

what is or was the most noble and laudable nation or people,

I think America saw its finest hour during WW II and afterwards. I think the Marshall Plan was perhaps the single most altruistic national act by a nation in the long, long chronicle of mankind.

I do not think that sending 10,000 Marines to play "I fought the law and the law won" at 110 decibels outside the Papal Embassy in Panama quite matched that prior example.

And please understand that I draw a bright line between the American people and our government. Harry "S for nuthin" Truman may have been the last effective American president to serve a full term.     ;)

EDIT: Nice video!    ;D

EDIT 2:  OP, ever since I lost my place at the table at CN.us, this is about the only place on the web were I can express my neo-liberal, leftist leanings without fear of reproval. Thanks for granting me a soapbox upon which to expound my possibly idiotic ideas.   :P

This nation as a political entity was no longer laudable after Lincoln tore its roots asunder.  As a people, this nation is still laudable and can be laudable as a political entity once again if it stops making war on the world and its own people and gets back to the simple idea in principle but difficult in practice; Consent of the governed.
