When your car was new...
« on: July 20, 2010, 12:25:24 AM »
Simple question:
What were you doing when your car was new?

My current family...

1972:
I was a year away from making my earthly debut.

1976:
I was 3 years old.  I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years.  I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery.

1979:
I welcomed my baby sister to the world.

1981:
I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall.

1987:
I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack.

Former members...

1988:
I finished middle school and entered the world of High School.  I first started thinking about having one of every single YEAR of the Monte Carlo.  I later re-thought that ... with the goal of one of each generation, which I completed March 2002.

1997:
I started my first full-time job, after graduating from college a year earlier.  I also put my '79 MC Landau (first car) away for the winter and bought a new "daily driver".

2000:
I was one Monte Carlo away from completing the family, having bought the '81 MC SC from my parents December 1999 and the '76 MC Landau a year before that; I've never bought a Monte Carlo brand new.  I was still working at the same company, but had switched jobs in late 1999, about the same time I bought the 2000 vehicle.  Health wise, I was (unbeknownst to me at the time) 3 years away from my 3rd open heart surgery.

1st car - still owned
Tiger Cat E1 1999 starting to build it from a box of bits

2nd Car - now sold
Porsche 924S 1987 still at school

3rd Car - still owned
BMW 525 1989 - just doing my GSCEs

Believe it or not I have only owned 3 cars after having had a driving license for 19 years - and didn't own a car for 8 years after passing the test.

Wow....  Saving money that way, by not owning many cars in that many years ;).

I hadn't PLANNED to own a car so soon after I got my license, but during my first year of college I found a car that I wanted ... and bought it ... and still have it.  Perhaps I should've passed it up and waited for something better, but it is better now ... and I wouldn't have been able to do some of the trips I did while in college without a car.....particularly to home and other places college-related.....

Fiat Idea - 2004 - just married.
Fiat Croma - 1996 - going to start my year of service in the army.
Alfa-Romeo Spider - 1990 - just in high school dreaming one day to have one of those... still 6 years to wait before buying it.
Fiat Regata Weekend - 1987 - nothing special, just a boy loving cars...
Fiat Panda - 1982 - second year at school, already loving cars.
Fiat 127 - 1975 - just born (and probably already loving cars).
The rest of the collection is older than me...

Holy moly!

Any pics of your cars, by chance ... or have I missed them somewhere along the way?
