Nice, but no cigar. I used to deal in plates in the UK and at one time owned PEN 15 which I sold on and is now owned by Steve Parrish, the ex motorcycle racer. Teasy Weasy Raymond was a Soho strip club king and owned the UK's answer to Playboy, a magazine called Mayfair. His girlfriend, Fiona Richmond, used to appear every month naked as a jay bird in one page or other, and the two of them had two very celebrated number plates - FU1 & FU2. The government sells off plates and since the UK is full of indians (no, not red ones as one american lady wanted to believe) and the plate 51 NGH was recently sold for $500,000. It was bought by a dealer who is trying to sell it for FOUR times that price. I tried a few years back to get R 50 LES and R 50 LED but they spotted it and wouldn't issue them - sad! Ten years back one plate was sold and has never appeared on a car yet - K 1 NGS.

But the most valuable plate of all in the UK according to informed sources? Shaken but not stirred, none other than OO 7. If the idiocy of it all interests you just have a look here and type in your own fancy to see what the prices are. From one letter and one number upwards, i.e. from A1 to 999 YYY

I remember our local old car coper, John Brown, NLAMN* had that one on his Mercédès. I bet he didn't let it go without a serious cash transfusion.

Years ago the lads at Car & Drivel had a pic of a NY plate purporting to belong to a well known pimp:
