Online archives
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:30:23 AM »
I meditated for a long time before writing this post, but at the end of the day I think that - for the sake of automotive history - it's better to share information than to keep for ourselves.
I also believe that it will not damage the spirit of the puzzle game, because when an archive contains several hundred pictures, it's not easier finding anything inside than outside, on the wide web.

So, I propose to start a thread where links and suggestions about big and valuable online automotive archives can be shared.

My first one is the Centro di Documentazione (Documentation Center) of the Turin Auto Museum that - hard to believe - is widely unknown.
Actually, it's not on the Museum homepage and has to be found at http://95.240.242.254/archidhoc/Login.aspx?CLASSID=552256
A (free) registration is needed and it really worths, as it features thousand photos and documents since the eraly age of automotive.

I believe there's no need to register.
There is just one word to type in both fields, if nothing changed.
EDIT: now it's changed but registration is quick & easy.

Yes. But I know that the museum is very open with historians that are carrying on researches. Just contact them, if you need something.

I made the registration a few days ago: it seems to be automatic, I didn't have to wait the activation...
It's really an incredible archive!!! :hyper:

I confirm there is a human being behind... But she was seated just in front of you at the AISA conference on Saturday and I asked her in advance to activate your account immediately as she got the online form  (power of smartphones!). Anyway, registration is usually very fast.

I went on to it and tried to Register; I entered all my details, a username, password, clicked on the two "I Accept" boxes and put in the code to prove I wasn't a computer then clicked on Complete your Registration.  Nothing at all happened!

I confirm there is a human being behind.

The access is managed by the Center director. Perhaps she is not in front of her computer. Anyway, if you don't get acces within tomorrow, let me know and I'll call her.

In a similar vein, I've tried several times now and every time I click confirm registerering the page kicks me back to the same form but with the password removed. I've tried multiple passwords, always ensuring to always have at least one capital and one number but to no avail...

Everything seems to be working for me. I've just registered an logged in.

Please note that the password MUST include one capital letter and one digit.

Same for me - the registration does not proceed despite my password fully meets their requirements  :(

I just called the Museum. They told me that the registration process is automatic and they just ask to creat an account to keep a log (for statistical purposes) of the users.
They suggest to send an email explaining the problem, with your data, so they can forward to the IT administrator. However, I'll PM to some of you a password you can start using now.
