Fun with Corvairs!
« on: January 30, 2011, 12:01:54 PM »
My current Corvair is the only one I've ever owned...but it's endeared itself to me!  I went out to pull the whole powertrain yesterday at 1:15, and at 4:00 it was out of the car on its cart.  Not bad for my first time pulling a Corvair powerpack, and in 25 degree slightly heated weather to boot!  Now to replace the clutch and put in the spare transmission and differential I went through...

Sweet pics.  When do you think you will have it back together?

Well, I rebuilt a spare 4-speed I had lying around, and I have my spare differential ready to go back together, but the nut that holds the U-joint yoke had a broken spline.  So now I have to tear apart the one in the car to go after that part so I can reassemble the diff.  Once that's done, I have to see what's wrong with the clutch and replace the bad stuff.  I have a storage garage rented for my Skylark, so I'd like to get this done and have that car home by April 1st--should be no problem at all...

Did I miss something? Now I understand better where Aaron's avatar comes from.

Otto...you can drive it as much as you want if the price is right!  Ha ha...actually, I never sell anything, that's why I'm stuck with my Corvair...

Ray...Don't know what you missed, but I took the picture in my avatar in front of a local factory that's been closed for over 20 years.  I don't think I'll be able to recreate it, because they've gated the factory off now because *surprise* people were trespassing!

The only thing I missed is that I had not realized that the Skylark was yours (or even that it was a 53 Skylark on your picture, which I just reversed to positive yesterday.

Oh, the '53 Buick is merely a Special Riviera hardtop...if it were a Skylark that would mean I were a much richer man!  My Skylark is a '65 model, not shown in my garage picture.  Meanwhile my wife's car sits outside...I married a patient woman!

To mix up a Sylark with a Special! Sorry. That shows you since how long I haven't set an eye on my automobile library.
