TVR to make a comeback?

There are strong rumours that TVR will be at the Geneva Show 2012 with a new model!

A TVR website has sprung up and you can see what they reckon they currently offer there.
For the purists, the fact that it's now TVR GmbH (operating out of Austria) may not quite cut the mustard any more..!

TVRs are very close to my heart having raced and rallied them over the last ten years.
It has been sad to learn of the shenanigans and the demise of the company in recent times.
Interesting that another revival may be on the cards but I'll reserve my judgement until the project becomes a reality.

I wonder if Juergen Mohr is still behind the 'new' TVR? In case you missed that piece of info, he's the guy who's been building the AC Cobra MkVI since 2009 and last year announced acquiring the moulds and machines for building TVRs. The owner of TVR though, is still Nikolai Smolenski afaik, he's just outsourcing/licensing production to Mohr's Gullwing company.

Anyway, a new model is in preparation supposedly (as always, one could say) but for now they're offering upgrades for TVR models from Griffith to Sagaris and everything in between. I'm keeping my fingers crossed so that this time something comes out of this revival :)

Apparently they will build you any TVR from their last range: Tuscan, Chimera, Cerbera, whatever they called their last ones (I can't remember!) - all for the same price: £99,600.00

Nikolai Smolensky, who still owns the TVR name and is behind this venture, reckons they already have a quite a few cars on order... Hmmm...

They are to be built (if any are) in England.

I pointed out that in the historical gallery of their website where they show pictures of their 1960's cars, under the heading 'Trident' they show a picture of a Trident Clipper, which of course was nothing whatsoever to do with TVR nor is there one single interchangeable part with any TVR (apart from the proprietary engine and gearbox), rather than one of the prototype TVR Tridents, but not only did they not reply but they have not changed the picture.  

Do they know what they're doing?  Probably not..
Will they sell any cars?  Probably not..
Will they make any cars? Probably not..
Do they inspire me with confidence?  Definitely not..

It was announced this week that the owner of the TVR name has given up hope of ever re-starting production.
Nikolai Smolensky says he has spent several years developing various TVR prototypes but realises that costs and customer demands are too high to make the project viable.  Well, what a surprise...

Mr Smolensky says he is "taking the name to a new venture building portable wind turbines".

Mr Smolensky reckons he made 3 prototypes:  a Tuscan Mk 3 convertible with a 400 bhp Corvette LS3 engine, a Cerbera powered by a BMW twin-turbo V8 diesel and a GT350 powered by a 100kW electric motor; just what buyers want from TVRs eh?

Looks final, but then it has looked final for some years.  If you must have a TVR you could always buy a wind turbine; you'll need a lot of wind to make anything out it but wind has never been in short supply where plans for TVR are concerned.

Werent they going to show there "new car" at the last goodwood revival? Nothing turned up...

Let's hope it is true, I love them!

That was the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011.  They didn't show.
Maybe they said the would be at the Revival as well, I can't remember.  They weren't.
Don't think we will be seeing them again unless someone has some spare £millions they want to throw away and can persuade Mr Smolensky to sell..

Must have been festival of speed, all I knew was it was goodwood, and forgot about the festival of speed!
