Is the first Golf the last NSU ?

I've recently read a few Internet articles about the NSU/Volkswagen K70, an adopted car I always found intriguing.

But, here and there, some are even telling that the first Audi 50/VW Polo was at first the NSU K50 project. And I've seen on an italian forum somebody claiming that the original Golf started too as a NSU study, under the name "K60" !

Volkswagen projects history is not my forte, and I don't read german at all. As anyone heard about these hidden connections between VW/Audi first modern cars and NSU stillborn projects ?
