Read in Autoblog just yesterday that Chrysler may be ready to spring a Cummins V8 diesel for the 1500(1/2 ton) Dodge Ram P.U..
When Chrysler went into bankruptcy the Cummins V8 diesel for the 1/2 ton Ram was ended, and didn't appear to be even a future reality.
In fact Ford and GM all were hard at work with various itinerations of smaller displacement diesels for their 1/2 ton P.U.'s. GM had a small V6 Duramax and Ford had a V6 too.
This could be a good thing for Chrysler IMO. The article in Autoblog said that the V8 diesel option was actually in the Chrysler computers as an option. Why would that be if the diesel wasn't a coming reality.
Anyway, I think I'd go the Cummins V8 route rather than a Ford V6 Eco Boost in a 1/2 ton if I were shelling-out the extra premium for an engine upgrade.
I tow a 10,000 lb. travel trailer with my 05 3/4 ton Dodge ram presently and have the 5.9 Cummins inline 6. Wouldn't trade it for a gasser.

Anyway, I think if Chrysler got the jump on the competition and offered the first 1/2 ton P.U. diesel since GM did it many years ago and quit with those terrible pre-Duramax 5.7/6.5 weak-knee'd diesels, they'd have a real jump on the competition
