Topic: Your Favorite Driving Road

Within 2 hours of your home, what is your favorite road to drive and why?

Mine is M-119 from Harbor Springs, Michigan to Cross Village, Michigan along the Lake Michigan shoreline.  Wonderful scenery with a road barely wider than a lane.  Tunnels of trees, wildlife, incredible homes, vistas over the lake to lighthouses and Beaver Island from the top of the embankments of sand the road traverses.  The journey finishes at Leg's Inn.



 An historic landmark of a restaurant, built in a castle like structure from the 19th century, featuring outstanding Polish food and over 500 types of beer.  This is the finish line to the best cycle ride in the state, IMHO.




Cross Village is above the "t" in the word Pellston.

I'm gonna cheat here and say The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island is by far the most fantastic driver's road I have ever experienced.  Gorgeous scenery and a sinewy track along a craggy coastline. Hairpins, esses, dramatic elevation changes and sweeping vistas of the North Atlantic all make for a memorable adventure behind the wheel.  There's an example in the attachement below.  Of course, its about 15 hours from my home, but whatever. Its still an experience you should have once in your life.

Somewhat more locally, Route 100 in Vermont is generally recognized as one of the top 10 routes in America.

Going within two hours of my newly adopted hometown of Missoula, MT-35 along the eastern shore of Flathead lake has to be it for me. It's a great way to escape the RV and truck traffic on route 93 to the west... it's a nice shortcut for getting to the park from here. On one side, you have the lake, and the other side is smack dab against the side of a mountain. Be careful on this one and watch for cops in Bigfork.
