Carrozzeria Scioneri
« on: February 28, 2013, 03:59:40 AM »
As anticipated somewhere on the forum, we are preparing now a book about Carrozzeria Scioneri history.
We have been very lucky, because with the help of a renowned Italian journalist (that's also writing the large part of the texts) we have been able to access directly to Renato Scioneri's (who passed away in 2005) personal archive.
So, the pictures will be wonderful.
Unfortunately, however, there are a couple of small holes and if any of you has some picture or information to fill them, it is of course very welcome:

- eraly years, from 1944 to 1950. They should have worked mainly on military vehicles (1944-45 for the Wermacht; 1945-1950 to rework war-scraps).
- late '70s. They worked on Fiat 127 mk2 and Ritmo, but we din't find any picture.

Any contribution will be, of course, credited in the book.

Many thanks!

Not yet... But of course it's the Murphy's law.  :noid:
I can assume that at least 24 out of the 23 pictures are wonderful and missing in my book that, so far, is already printed and waiting for binding.
You can look for months for some information and when you give up and decide to print the book, a lot of new stuff arrives the day after. Always.

Just placed my order...now it's time to take a seat near the door and wait...
BTW have you decided the next subject? And more important, are you going to cover all the ones already covered by some 'disappointing' and too expensive small booklets (blue cover, just BW small and fuzzy pictures...)?

Just packed and ready for shipment! You will get it next week.

Next subjects are definitely already decided and the job is going ahead. I got the opportunity to have access to two quite big archives of former coachbuilders and I think they indeed deserve a book, also beacuse the quantity of photos and other documents is quite impressive.

One I think you can guess... because I've wrote a topic here speaking about my discovery of the "time machine". It is... no: too easy! You have to guess!  ;) I know you know... And it is much more than just a coachbuilder!
The second is Carrozzeria Riva (also mentioned sometimes here on Autopuzzles), who is a minor coachbuilder, but also one of the ancienst in Italy (older than Italy, actually, dating back to the Austro-Ungarian Empire provinces in the 40s of the XIX Century) and who made amazing cars, like the "Monza" and "Serenissima" berlinetta.

So, you see that I'm not following a real logic but I'm try to catch opportunities and go where there are interesting brands with enough documentation to support a whole book.
Others will hopefully follow and I've already some very promizing contacts...  :)

I think I have an idea (and one of your latest books can support it)...and Riva, well I just can't wait...again!
I have to thank a book seller that some years ago, while I was going to buy a series of booklets about the "Carrozzieri Italiani" and I was complaining for the fact that they were just a bunch of xeroxed pages and priced like fine books, told me to wait because a new, complete and better encyclopedia was on the way on the subject. It was not true, but now I can spend those hundreds of euros for a good collection!
(but you have to cover them all!  ;D )

I think your thinking is right. But to be honest I've also to say that the two things are not related as source. The drawings published in the first book come from the stylist personal archive; later I got access to the cocachbuilder's archive, which is also full of photos. After some months of scanning, the counter stopped at 1815 photos! Definitely enough for a good book, I think.
