Bye, Bye, Mercury
« on: May 28, 2010, 09:42:58 AM »
According to Bloomberg News, the demise of Mercury is imminent, pending only final approval by the board of directors of Ford in July.

Is anyone surprised?

Will anyone shed a tear for Mercury?

Here is a picture of the last Mercury I coveted:

The great Mercury cars live on, as long as collectors and fans appreciate them. Ray, I have a couple of collector car shows on the calender in the next few months - I'll seek out some Oldsmobile's, Merc's and Edsel's, and get you as many good pics as I can.

The current Mercury cars are no greater nor worse that their Ford twins, but ask a higher purchase price. That's a shaky value proposition in a strong economy. Today, it's doomed

MG is right, the 57-59 Big M's were nice. And I miss this one especially.

Mercury, I don't think it is really that much of a loss compared to say Oldsmobile from my view.

Nice cars in their past the current (and recent) offerings have been redundant - not really offering anything that Ford couldn't. It was over due.
