Nice find on the Guerney car. Most people forget he was a competent racer in many, many classes. Just an all around helluva good driver!
Here's more information on the Formuala Buckeyes competition.
Overview
The Formula Buckeyes SAE race team consists of students from a variety of majors including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, and Art & Technology. Through this variety of talent and dedication, we fund, design, fabricate, and race a high performance, open wheeled race car. We compete against over 140 other colleges and universities at the Eastern (Detroit) and Western (California) Formula SAE competitions. The concept of the Formula SAE competition is to allow students to take part in vehicle research, development, and fabrication. FSAE students are highly saught after in industry because of their real world problem solving experience gained while on the team.
We get to drive our cars!
Everyone who puts time in on the team gets to drive 450 lbs of high performance race machine.
There is no better feeling than to be able to drive the race car that you had a hand in designing and building. With 0-60 times in the 3.5 second range, prepare to get your mind blown each and every time you squeeze into the driver's seat.
Student Involvement
Building a high performance race car requires a lot of volunteer help from students. It doesn't matter if you have or haven't used CAD software or welded before. The only thing we require is a will to learn, as all team leaders are ready and willing to teach you anything and everything you've ever wanted to know about race car engineering.Fortunately. spelling is not a big part of the competition......
