Topic: Bought a Beetle

Well I bought a 1962 VW Beetle  - Its a Canadian Deluxe model which is kind of in between the trim levels of the bare bones Standard sold in Europe and the Deluxe model of the US. Some extra exterior chrome over the Standard but has only partial headliner, no fuel gauge, etc. Its currently not running as it had some fueling issue after getting a rebuilt engine a couple years back. Its got some patina type rust but nothing structural. Neat little bare bones car.





yeah they have been sitting for a while.



hopefully start on making it run this week. Brakes need bleed too but thankfully the handbrake works well.

Too nice to chop up I think. This one will be fixed and become my daily driver. We'll see how old car + 6V electrics + winter works though.

Hope not to be too indiscrete, but I'd like to know how much money you've paid for it.
As I was 19 my first car was a Beetle, too. And it was a typical "Blender" like we say in Germany (has nothing to do with the English meaning, ["blenden" = to blind sb.])
A "Blender" is a pretender — nice looking, but with a completely rotten structure. I've paid 1.500 DM back then app. 750,-€ today (~1.037 $)

I paid $500 from a co-worker. Its had a lot of front end suspension work, rot free body, and apparently a rebuilt engine so I think I did ok. I've got the hub caps in the trunk and a set of spare rims. Needs tires and a windshield so I suspect its another $600 to get back on the road.

BTW: be sure it WILL be cold in the winter. I only knew (6V) beetle drivers with corrupt heating.
