Automotive museums
« on: December 06, 2009, 12:44:39 PM »
I am on my way to seriously overhaul my worldwide list of automobile museums (thanks PJ, Allemano, neilshouse, Arunas and Faksta for your help :) )

It is an utterly gruesome task. I can't imagine how a museum which was closed 17-years ago (!!!) is being featured on certain websites.

It will be online, most probably from the middle of January, 2010.

Rather flexible search options are just being developed.

Folks, fellow AutoPuzzlers,
750 collections and still counting. Though UK, Germany, Spain, Denmark and Japan have only been partly covered and not all functions are in place, but I'd be happy to hear your opinion on my new site:

www.automuseums.org

First you need to register at
http://www.automuseums.org/user/register/

once you are confirmed, you can check out the directory at
http://www.automuseums.org/ls/

Your feedback would be appreciated on:
- General opinion on the site,
- Usability
- What else should be featured on museums? I know, more details on the cars, motorcycles - it is under consideration, once the site is up and running. So, anything else?
- Missing collections, corrections,

Also updates, stories on museums would be warmly welcomed

Links section is absolutely under construction, not to mention yet-to-be created sections, like a blog, about us etc. Anyhow, I am sure  you can find some interesting stuff already

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Pal

The search functions are wide, great! But after hitting the 'Advanced search' button it tells me that I don't have a permission to view the page (yes, I'm logger in)...

I took a look at the italian museums\collections you found...you even list a collection of motorcars in a Pizzeria! That's really the most comprehensive index...
I think I remember of a couple more of them, one in Tuscany (where is the 1st  car that hit the road in Italy, a Peugeot) and one that opened just these days.
I'm not home, but whenI'll be back I'll look for more.

Great job!

Thanks for your comments.

Well at that pizzeria, on the first floor there's a collection of motorcycles (if I remember correctly) which is open for public viewing :)

I'm grateful for any corrections, updates!

I still can't understand why a local tourist website is not updating its museum listing in a timely fashion. Anyhow, it seems I need just two more weeks and then, off we go!

With the exception of a Finnish museum owner, who said "Yeah, whatever" after I explained to him why I am enquiring about the state of his collection I have found a lot, a tremendous lot of helpful people.

And several fellow AutoPuzzlers are really, really helpful.

Over 900 collections and most of Germany still needs to be researched. Though I have added a dozen or so firefighters' museum yesterday :)

Fellow AutoPuzzles, please check out www.automuseums.org this week. You don't need to register or anything just look at the header.

Version two will be displayed next Tuesday and then I'll ask your opinion which one you like better. (Maybe by that time there's going to be a version 3 as well :) )

Thank you!

Yes! Very nicely done, but too dinky.
