I didn't know if I should post this in the Feature Photography section since it's not really car-related.

If anyone is questioning why I moved to Montana, this should erase all doubt. I awoke Saturday AM to a sunny day with highs in the 60s and promptly decided to hightail it up to the park. May and June can be quite rainy up there so I figured it might be my last good weekend for a while. It's about a 140 mile drive to the west side of the park, and my preferred route takes me up through the Swan Valley -- 90 miles on a practically deserted road with nice, sweeping corners. If it weren't for the overly abundant deer, you could do triple digits the whole way without worry. Since I don't drive the preferred Montana vehicle -- an F350 with bull bars -- I took it easy on the right pedal.

Lake McDonald is just inside the park's west entrance, and since the lodge doesn't open until Memorial Day it's practically deserted. These photos really don't do the utter silence and the crystal clear water justice. Plus, these photos are a wee bit washed out; I really need to invest in a good polarizer.

Spring melt-off is happening absurdly early this year. For comparison's sake, here's what it looked like when I was up there just four weeks prior.

As you can tell, I moved this thread.  I think this is auto related.  Can you say, "destination?"

;)

I want to go to places after seeing photos like these.  This time, I am coming there on the bike.

It looks 1000x better in real life than it does in those resized, compressed photos. I'm insanely jealous of your cross-country bike ride. Are you coming across Highway 2 the whole way? Let me know as soon as you have an itinerary so I can make my plans. You really ought to consider a stop in Missoula too; I have a feeling you'd really like this town. On Wednesday nights at the Top Hat, they have Wasted Wednesdays -- it's $7 at the door and all the draft beer you can drink once you're inside. It's not Miller Lite either, they have a fantastic selection of local microbrews.

The first trip to the Rockies is always the best.

Hwy 2 either the whole way out or the whole way back, not both.  I am going to First Ave. In Minneapolis and I am going to Deadwood S.D. and the Black Hills also.

Is Joey doing any of the ride with you? I seem to recall seeing his bike parked out in front of your house.

I am alone.

That is my largest concern.  :-\

I've done probably 20k miles solo in the last 18 months. Of course, I was enclosed in a 3000 lb steel cage. You just have to be a bit careful about where you stop, especially in places like Minneapolis. If you're really worried, get a concealed carry permit.

Rain and mechanical worries are more what I was refering to.

I wouldn't worry re- the mechanicals...you're on a Honda fercryinoutloud....I'm more worried about the Harleys and my bud's Indian making it..

The rain?  I'm bringing raingear, but I'm not riding very long if there's steady downpours in the forecast.  An aborted/shortened/altered trip through really gorgeous country is much better than a forced trip to the emergency room.  This trip is gonna be relaxing for me one way or the other....really need it this year....

PS, should have the tentative road itinerary completed (finally) by the end of the weekend C/S/D.....
