Looks like the car has been already used for a puzzle, it's a Castagna Alfa Romeo 6C 2500, I'll look for the previous puzzle.

You seem to be right, couldn't find it as a previous puzzle. According to my source the base car isn't an Alfa Romeo, will look into it. Meanwhile I will change the photo for another one.

If it isn't a Kurtis, could it be a Watson chassis?

I have to come back on Sixteescuda's reply. My puzzle pic has disappeared from the web, so I can't trace it anymore. It could well be a Kurtis Kraft, I only have a name of the car and a year. So these 2 are enough for a point

A re-creation of the Sugar Ripe Prune Special that ran at Indianapolis in 1949.

I am sure it is a Kurtis Kraft 2000 which seemed to first appear around 1946, - the question is which one. I assume you have deleted something from the photo, so is it a 1947 Bowes Sealfast Special?

Its the 1946 Dick Lowe Special, which had the unique distinction of being started in 1946 and finally finished in 1983. It is not a Kurtis, but was started by Joe Guida of Santa Clara, California who designed the chassis for a HAL engine - a heavily modified Ford model B engine with dohc. Dick Lowe, a race-car collector and restorer, found the car many years later and rebuilt it with a similar engine. It is currently for sale.

No wonder I could find no record of it racing.

And that's the correct answer, well found.
