Solved: Rust never sleeps - Carchitextra
« on: April 22, 2019, 01:58:28 PM »
During the Easter days I've had some spare time to arrange a new group puzzle of the mind-bending kind. Following the "Rust never sleeps" theme as well as the Carchitecture theme of previous group puzzles of mine, all you have to do is to find a connection between one of the more or less rusty cars in the first section, connect it with one of the pieces of architecture in the second section, and finally link that pair to one of the pictures in the Extra section. One point for each triple combination found, no lock for just identifying a single picture. Have fun!

The first ten cars:

Yes, the ninth car, which is Car I, is a FATA Aurea. Now you have to find a building and an extra connected anyhow to this car.

We have 26 cars (pictures named Carchitextra Car A to Z) in the first three posts. Each one of those has to be paired with one of the 26 buildings (pictures named Carchitextra Architecture 1 to 26) in the next three posts. And each of these 26 pairs has to be combined with one of the 26 pictures (named Carchitextra Extra a to z) from the last three initial posts. So in the end we will have 26 combinations, for example B-17-f, as solutions. I hope the puzzle arrangement is a bit clearer now.

Car J is the Perho-Pudnik.

Amilcar Type M as car P, a street corner in Saint Denis (maybe) as extra B, Isadora Duncan (never) as extra Y

Well, that is something to start with. Car P is indeed an Amilcar Type M and Extra y is Isadora Duncan (who lost her life in an Amilcar, the scarf, you know). What's missing is the Architecture part, i.e. one of those pictures captioned Carchitextra Architecture 1 to 26. But, since you've got two out of three right, I place a lock for you on that combination P-?-y.

Puzzles like this make my brain hurt. I'm going to have a go at one:

Car Z is the Galy Vibel

Galy was an offshoot of Forges et Ateliers de la Fournaise (I think), who at one point had premises in boulevard Anatole in St Denis, Architecture 25

The Galy company itself was based on avenue Niel, Paris - Extra F

So: Z - 25 - F

That was my intention.  >:D

Oh my! You are right on all accounts, but you found the (hopefully) only weak spot in this puzzle. Car Z is correct, and Extra f is the fitting third part. But although Architecture 25 is correctly identified by you, it was meant to belong to another combination, as it housed several companies during its existence. So you have to find another piece of architecture connected to the Galy. And with respect to your reasonable guess, I'll give the hint that the connection is purely by name. The combination Z-?-f is obviously locked for you.

Neither 'Galy' nor 'Vibel' seem to exist anywhere except attached to that car. Is it a spelling variation on one of those? For example, there is an avenue Gally, and even a town of Gally... nothing that matches with the images though!

Annoyingly I have 2/3 of at least one other, but finding the third part is a nightmare!

When does Max's lock end, by the way?  ;)

Galy, without any variation of spelling, is (the main) part of the building's name. Keep on looking.

I think, max had his time. Now I will unlock P-?-y, so that you can have a go at it.

Is architecture 25 the missing link between Isadora and the Amilcar? Amilcar also used these premises as a factory

Okay, architecture 22 is the Hotel Galy in Aveyron
Yes, the Hôtel de Galy in Millau in the Aveyron department. So Z-22-f is the first correct combination.

Is architecture 25 the missing link between Isadora and the Amilcar? Amilcar also used these premises as a factory
Yes, of course. That makes P-25-y the second combination found.
Well done. The points will be awarded at the end of the puzzle.
