There does seem to have been a Formula 3 based on 750cc - Renault 4cv, Saab etc. Is this it?

It's not F4 or F3, but much more an unofficial class of racing. However, you have stumbled on the engine used.

They were all built with that engine, yes. Later versions used a Dauphine engine.

Are they circuit racers - as opposed to rally cross type racing.

I don't know much about the races, but from the name I'd say it was a form of rallycross.

Neither. The 4CV engines were used simply because they were freely available, and although the machines took part in races, they were not circuit races as we know it, more offroad in nature.

The image comes from a French language site  ;).

Perhaps it's my French, but I cannot find any reference to this. Would the year help - !963?

My notes suggest a date a few years later than that . Tell you what, since this is proving problematic, it's 1970.
