Would mechanical base help, or is the bodyshell more important in identifying. Or is it just the builders name?

I don't think the constituent parts would help all that much, although possibly they would help narrow it down. The builders name would definitely help you track down the information, but the US is a mighty big and populous place.

As usual with AP, it's all down to whether you know which sites to look at.

Hmmm, unfortunately  I don't so  I need to narrow it down. Is the body a commercially available one like a Kellison, or is it the builder's unique design?

It's a unique design. At the time the car was built, the owner was working in a bodyshop.

Is it the EDP Special?

My source did not refer to the car by that name, but I suspect you've found it, because those are the initials of the builder. What was his name, and what was the popular name for the car?

LOCKED for tobytwirl.

Still hunting but I believe the builder to be Eno DePasquale, and on his own website he refers to his '1959 Home-Built EDP Chevrolet Special'.

This seems to encapsulate what is known about the car:

'Eno DePasquale's 1959 EDP CHEVY SPECIAL, Modified 1957 Chevy chassis, Small block Chevy engine, 4 speed transmission, Aluminum body, Originally raced in SCCA C Modified Class, by Eno.
Also winner of many drag race trophies in 1961-1963. Car was sold by Eno in 1963 and found again in 1990. Restored by Eno to original condition with safety upgrades. Racing Again !!!'

Cannot find a reference to any other name.

I think you've done enough for the point - the article which I found about the car always referred to it as "The Bomb" and I assumed that's what it was known as in US racing circles. Here's the car as it is today.
