I have doubts about this car as it is described on the internet, but it makes a good puzzle. What is it supposed to be?

Rytecraft Scootacar

That's what I believe it is, but it's not as described in the internet article where I found the image. The writer claims it is something else, and as they owned it for a time we have to listen and accept to some extent.

What is it claimed to be?

SUPERCAR?

No.

(This is not an easy puzzle - I intend to leave it a bit longer, and then post some additional images to assist (or confuse!) before it reaches the Pros).

Helps confirm the Rytecraft Scootacar identification, rather than what the owner says, don't it?

Indeed it does, well IMHO anyway. And obviously yours too!

I obtained the images and the identification from the net, and the vehicle had been the property of someone related to a very well-known motor sport personality.

Rytecraft did versions for Vauxhall and Chrysler and one appeared as "The Miracle Studebaker", presumably this one is yet another variation tailored to someone elses requirements.

I think you're almost certainly on the right lines. The person who posted these images on the internet does not refer at any time to Rytecraft, instead they claim it was built by another company altogether. That's the problem from your point of view - I want to know which company is supposed to have been involved.

We can google all sorts of manufacturors' names with "child's car" and I forsee a lot of wasted time analysing the results - particularly for those companies with a fairly common word as their brand name, such as Morris or Star, but just think how many results you'd get from Standard!!! Even before t'internet we had difficulty finding "Standard" references in our bound volumes of Autocar/Motor/Automoter Journal.
