No. Somewhere along the line (maybe it was my fault) this puzzle has taken an odd turn. I have never said it wasn't built in the UK! I said it was made in Europe but didn't realise we were no longer part of that continent.

That's a huge clue obviously! The engine has been ascertained - what chassis was used ?

It's the 'partly British' that I am trying to interpret. The engine is British, so if the chassis is also, is it a Lester?

Sorry, we're both still in a kerfuffle here  . The chassis is from the Continent.  The car was built in the UK from an MG engine and a foreign chassis.

PS I have just re-read the posts for this puzzle and my suggestion that it was partly British and that the engine was the bit from the UK was a tad misleading if read in a certain way. My apologies to anyone who attempted to solve this puzzle. Shouldn't take long now.............

Yep. Got there and one point to you after a bit of a messy puzzle.

The car was advertised for sale in the 1950s as a Fiat-MG.  It's a Fiat 500 chassis with a 747cc MG C-type motor. That's all I know, although a bit of research uncovered the Fisher Special, which was a Topolino with a J2 MG engine, and at a long stretch I suppose they may have been one and the same car.
