Remembering we are looking for a very obscure make, rarer than a Leyland 8, is it based on a Railton?

Sorry if my previous answers misled anyone - the base car is not obscure, just the name of the builder! Not a Railton, more mundane.

Is the base car an Austin 7 with a straight 8 engine based on two Austin 7 engines in line built by Ken Wallis?

It's not the Wallis car, and it's not an Austin base.

The base car was indeed built for a few years in the 1920s.

How about it being a conversion from an SS1 - the proportions of radiator and front chassis/axle look similar.

D'you mean like the 15 h.p. Standard (that the SS 1 was derived from!)?

Now that WOULD be mundane.  Not a Standard of any kind - this car was homebuilt from a really ordinary car but was substantially modified to achieve the end product.

:D Not a Trojan although I like the idea.......

When I say mundane, it's not cheap and cheerful, just a very "ordinary" car. Begins N-Z.

Standard
Sunbeam

Wolseley

I can't think of another make at the moment, so N-R or S-Z?
