Relentlessly cute miniature box-wagons are a Japanese phenomenon whose popularity shows no signs of peaking. Because they're Japanese, as opposed to, say, Malaysian, they have automatic chic and cachet. And because they're Japanese, as opposed to, say, European, their popularity is a problem for the Anglo mind right from the get-go.Nevertheless, the Nikkei Business Daily is reporting that Nissan plans to release three subcompact cars in North America by the end of 2008, in an attempt to boost tanking sales. The hinge that this plan pivots on is the North American release of the next-generation Cube, Nissan's bite-size, asymmetrical utility wagon, which is smaller than the Versa in Nissan's lineup. The small Rogue SUV will also go on sale in North America this fall.
I like the Cube. The Rougue? Not so much.
