Honda CR-Z Brochure Leaked
« on: December 11, 2009, 10:46:41 AM »
Is this an accident or the latest wrinkle in viral marketing.  This story is all over the internet, so while Honda may not be pleased, they are probably not all THAT unhappy.

I think it's the same as for the pictures from inside the factory of the new Alfa Giulietta, and many other cases.
When a photographer took shots of the yet to be released new Megane, it was then jailed, and that's the only time I've heard of any sort of punishment for the authors of such shots.

Regardless, I'm a bit disappointed by the specs (if they are reliable), so far it seems to be an Insight Coupe, I was hoping for something more sporty and with an approach similar to that of the (uberly ugly and useless) BMW X6 ActiveHybrid, so the hybrid system used to gain in performance rather than (only) in economy and emissions.

I can't disagree with you. The performance is average at best. But still, the Fiat 850's had performance that was well below average but they were a hoot to drive, nonetheless.

At lower vehicle speeds, the extra torque from the electric motor should be quite entertaining. And Honda is well known for adding performance versions after the base models are introduced and on sale for a while.

I was always a big fan of the  CRX's. Some of the nicest Hondas ever. I am working to be at the head of the line to drive one when they become available. The proof will be in the driving.!

I do hope Honda will bring some excellent dynamics, but unfortunately the recent new cars weren't that amazing as they used to be. Yes, the Civic Type R handles very well, but it wasn't enough to fight against the competition (mostly because they are all turbocharged I should add).

Some sort of a hybrid Elise and I'll be fine  :D

I was taken to task by a member of the Temple Of VTech forum (www.vtech.org), which first broke this story in the US for

A. saying the photos were scanned when if fact they were photographs of the purloined brochure. Digital is digital, but in the interests of accuracy, a scanner was not involved in the heist.

B. Not saying the magic words Temple of VTech right out loud in the core of the article instead of just posting a link to the web page.
OK. Mea culpa.

It's all my fault.  ;)

Sorry to bring this back from the dead....

But a '89 CRX-Si still lives within our family collection.  I still love to drive that car all these years later.  Yes I can see and feel where it falls down, but the line has been raised a bit since the gen. II CRX made it's mark, no?

Honda has the ability to put a finer edge on this car.  I would expect it to.  At this point, they seem confused with the hybrid message.

Let me help out a bit, if I may.

Uber-hybrid commuter = Civic sedan

Sports minded KERS type hydrid = CR-Z (ie. have it be a sports car first, fwd notwithstanding, with the added benefit of hybrid technology)

Agree completely about the CRX heritage, Bezor. They were very desirable cars in their time. I wanted one myself. And they are much in evidence at track days I have attended, being very popular with the racy types.

I also agree that Honda seems a bit confused about what its new CR-Z is supposed to be. Reports from the Continent suggest their version of the car is considerable quicker AND more fuel efficient than the American model. What's up with that?
