I believe this is the 8-cylinder, 80 hp Maxwell (Maxwell-Briscoe Company) that was to be driven by Owen Wallace in the 1906 American Elimination Trial for the Vanderbilt Cup. Unfortunately, the car never made it to the trial due to a damaged crankcase.

Was it a genuine straight 8 or was it two 4-cylinder engines coupled together? ie 1 crankshaft or two?

1) The Automobile, issue 8-23-06, page 229 picture: ..two 4s were joined by a common crankcase; there's a clear pic in The Automobile, 8-23-06 pg 229.. Haven#t the picture available
