That's the ticket. The government didn't purchase the whole tank, but they liked the turret, and put it on WWII aircraft.

The Tucker Combat Car was designed by Wesley C. Casson for Harry Miller and Preston Tucker.
The picture was taken at the Colt testing range in July 1938.

Tucker Combat Car - aka Tucker Tiger. Reputedly built for Preston T. Tucker by Harry A. Miller in 1937 and submitted for military evaluation in United Sated in November 1938. Though later it appeared Miller may have based the vehicle on an earlier military scout car design he produced for the American Bantam Co.
