Fellow Autopuzzlers, for a point please tell me the make and year.

Don't be naughty! Stay away from Google Search by Image, kids.

That would probably be a Locomobile steamer of 1899-1900.

Perhaps it's a Grout. The Model A of around 1900 is quite similar

Of course some of the modern kit-car Likamobiles are quite convincing, so perhaps it's not as old as it looks and dates from last year!

No, it's an original from the turn of the 20th century (probably restored, I imagine). Not a very well-known marque, but not particularly obscure either.

That's it!
I have to admit that I've been digging a little deeper and it turns out I have to apologise because Allan L was partly right: this is not an original car (it does look too neat for that), but a modern recreation of the 1901 Rochester that, driven by Juan Cassoulet, won the first auto race ever celebrated in Argentina; it was built by one John (or Juan, depending on the source) Hampton around an original Rochester engine (I'm not sure if it's the engine of Cassoulet's car or another one).

When the VCCofGB had a Dating Panel and I was on it, we had quite a lot of difficulty deciding which of the more or less identical little steamers was which. Locomobile/Stanley was the most common and the early ones rather set the design parameters the others followed. To add extra confusion, some even used Locomobile engines.
I no longer have access to Beverley Ray Kimes' work which probably would tell me more about the Rochester than the Beaulieu Encyclopaedia does (which is precious little).
