Is it somehow related to airship technology.

I remember a French officer (but forgot his name...) testing a propeller car shortly before World War One. The idea, which seriously interested the French military, was to develop a motor car for crossing the vast expanses of the Sahara desert at high speed. Is there any connection with this car? Apart from being designed for some kind of record, I cannot imagine any practical purpose for a vehicle fitted with such a large propeller if used on a public road...

I believe the vehicle to which you are referring looked more like this:

We had that one before: https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2013-42/solved-pn-515-sauterelle-by-max-de-lafargue-1919
The puzzle car was built by someone else.

Nope, the one I have in mind looks like a conventional automobile just as the subject of this puzzle, but with a pusher propeller of a smaller diameter instead.

My problem is, I know well in what childhood magazine I should look to get more info, but presently it is on the other side of the earth and my arm is not long enough. ???

EDIT: Actually I just had to scroll all the way down the page which link has been provided by Wendax to find that it actually was the Aéro-Sable I was thinking of.

I looked up my source again. The car was built before 1905, the conversion took place after 1905.
