I have no interest or expertise in armoured vehicles at all, but I think I might know this one as it has been featured in a number of books and magazine articles about the charismatic British land speed record holder Sir Malcolm Campbell over the years.

So, I think this is the Campbell/Villa armoured car, created by Sir Malcolm Campbell and his colleague Leo Villa (?).

Yes LOCKED for you to find out it's official name and which company built them. Also what chassis it's based on.

The Briggs Body Workshop in Dagenham, Essex (based next to the giant British Ford factory), built the vehicles it seems, with its 'official' name being the 'Light Reconnaissance Armoured Dodge 4 x 2', although it was also known as the Malcolm Campbell Armored Vehicle. The Campbell/Villa prototype used Ford power, with the production models using Dodge mechanicals. Is this the extra information you were looking for?

Perfect!  1 point to you. It is indeed the 'Light Reconnaissance Armoured Dodge 4 x 2' popularly known as Malcolm Campbell cars.

About 70 were produced up till August 1940 and were intended as improvised armour for the regular army during the invasion scare. The home guard later procured one and added a WW1 Hotchkiss 6pdr Tank gun and called it Tubby the tank buster.
