AL114 - another set of book titles
« on: October 14, 2019, 06:27:17 AM »
Looking at another of my bookshelves I can list another titles of ten of the books (in some cases the English translations of books in other languages) and for a point for each, tell me the author. I'll put this one in the Pro section so that everyone can have a go at it!
Bits and Pieces
Destination Monte
A Racing Driver's World
Nine Lives Plus
A Bit Behind the Times
Works Driver
Speed on Salt
Split Seconds
A Turn at the Wheel
Life at the Limit
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Nine Lives Plus : The Hon. Mrs Victor Bruce
Speed on Salt : George Eyston & W.F. Bradley (foreword by Sir Malcolm Campbell)

Now I let other players have a go at it.

All correct

Works Driver - Piero Taruffi
Correct

So to summarise:
Bits and Pieces -  Bira (Prince Birabongse of Thailand) (Wendax)
Destination Monte - Peter Harper (oko94)
A Racing Driver's World - Rudolf Caracciola (Wendax)
Nine Lives Plus - The Hon. Mrs Victor Bruce (oko94)
A Bit Behind the Times - Kenneth Neve (Wendax)(Oguerrerob)
Works Driver - Piero Taruffi  (nicanary)
Speed on Salt - George Eyston & W.F. Bradley (oko94)
Split Seconds - Raymond Mays (Oguerrerob)

So 3 points each to oko94, Wendax and Oguerrerob and 1 to nicanary

I'm impressed by the knowledge shown by some of you who I know do not have English as first language - it may just be good internet bashing, but I somehow think not . . .

As far as I'm concerned it was just a matter of googling the book titles... or maybe I missed something and search engines were not allowed for this puzzle ?

For a tougher challenge next time you could post the book covers with the title and author edited out - that would certainly require more knowledge.

I didn't ban internet searching as it is difficult to police - as we know "search by image" is not allowed for normal "name the car" puzzles but there are times when one has doubts . . .
As for book covers, most of my books as above (and in the other set) don't have their dust jacket and have nothing distinctive about the book itself so it would be hard to do. I might still give it a try if anyone wants me to . . .

Same here - I used buy some books from Chris Knapman, and he had a basement where the "reading copies" were to be found. I found a lot of savings to be made there!
