Saab Formula Junior?

It's Formula Junior, and it may have a Saab engine, but that's not the maker's name.

No, but you're in the right country. This car was designed to take a variety of engines.

So this is an early American Formula Junior, designed to be flexible as far as engines, with a name beginning A-F, (thank you D-type) and fitted in the photo with ........ a Lancia engine?

I don't know what make of engine powers the puzzle car. Don't forget that Americn FJ rules initially allowed certain motors of up to 1500cc. !

Otherwise you are correct - it's an early car, and the maker's name begins with a letter A-F in the alphabet.

Apache?

Correct. This photo was taken in 1961 at West Creek, California, and the driver is none other than Roy Pike, who went on to greater things in FJ and F3 in the UK.

And another point to you.
