Yes -- made obvious when I chose to avoid saying it was not American!
The truth is, very few people in the Americas would refer to a person or an item as 'American' unless that person or item originated in the U.S. (Try calling a Canadian person 'American' and see how they react.
) But I've met a number of Europeans who use the term 'American' to refer to people and things from the Americas in general, so I try to keep that in mind when responding to questions on AP.
