That is Ray Cutler and his car, said to be at Shelsley although it doesn't look like that to me.
The Cutler car was built for FIII in 1949 and used a car gearbox and final drive to transmit the power of the JAP engine, where others used motorcycle gearboxes and chain drive.

Yes indeed. A full answer from a man who knows his competition cars.  I suspect the shaft drive would have bled some of the power, but then again I'm no engineer.

Doesn't look like Shelsley to me either.
