Winterbottom design for a Lotus Esprit. I think this might be a repost

No..

Winterbottom design for a Lotus Esprit. I think this might be a repost

..because this is the right designer.  It is a Lotus but not an Esprit, which is perhaps what the earlier post was as he did one of those as well I believe.
Locked for you to complete the answers.

I don't have the book to hand, but your previous puzzle uses this exact drawing and calls it an Esprit!

Ah, that was probably picked up from the Internet so was no doubt duff information!
This one is from the book so is going to be correct.

Lotus M70?

Yes, that's right.  But the puzzle is locked for Barrett so we'll have to give him the chance to enlarge on that, i.e. what place did the M70 have in Lotus's plans and when does it date from.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was still locked for me! I think Warlord should get the point, or at least be allowed to expand on his answer

In turn I didn't realize it was locked for Barrett, so sorry me. It should be a Lotus Europa replacement proposal by Oliver Winterbottom, 1972, I believe. The M70 program sales name later on was to be Esprit, but I do not feel confortable with the point, so please don't let me have it

I've given you a point warlord otherwise nobody would get one!
Oliver Winterbottom was working on the Europa replacement (M70) in 1972 based on the Europa chassis, but it never got beyond the one-fifth wooden model stage as a lengthened Europa chassis had been sent to ItalDesign for Giugiaro to work around.  His Esprit was shown at the 1972 Turin Show (it was not a working car at the time) and wowed everyone so Chapman made the decision to make that his mid-engined car instead of the Europa and it took over the M70 designation.
The rest, as they say, is history, but it's a pity that Winterbottom's nice design went to waste.  Such is the lot of car designers!  Many of Giugiaro's best designs also never made production..
