Short-Ashby, designed by Victor Ashby and originally manufactured with the support of airplane builders Short Brothers Ltd (at Short Brothers' Borstal facility near Rochester, Kent). After Short Brothers withdrew support, Ashby continued to build a version of the car at a new facility in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, dropping "Short" from the name.

Edit: I forgot to include the model. This is a Short-Ashby "8HP Two-Seater."

I should also mention that the "Short-Ashby" version was powered by a 688 cc Coventry-Victor flat-twin engine, while the later "Ashby" version was powered by a 972 cc Ruby side-valve motor.

Thank you for an informative and very full solution. I shan't even bother to check the veracity!

Another point to you.
