I am assuming British of the late 50s/early 60s but the photograph more recent. The depth of the door implies a fairly basic chassis. The wheels look Ford-ish. The bodywork would be quite stylish if it fitted better. It isn't from one of usual Ford Special suspects. Is the driver bigger than usual or the car smaller? I don't think I am going to get this one . . .
The more I consider the nature of speed, the more mysterious I find it.

Your assumptions are generally correct.
It is a smallish body originally from the 1950s and would generally be fitted to a Ford chassis/drivetrain, but this one isn't.
The picture is quite recent as the car still exists.

1955 Rochdale Jupiter. Rochdale body on Jewett Jupiter chassis. I can't remember who built it at the moment!

Exactly, yes!
I don't know who built it either, which is why I didn't ask that question!
Hence this is solved; well done.

It used to race at 8 Clubs Silverstone and I've a driver's name somewhere, but not a constructor's unless it was the same chap.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Keith Ross rings a bell as a previous owner, but I'm not sure he is the constructor
