The engine is indeed a V12, but no connections with Jaguar or BMW in either engine or chassis.

(Sorry - there is a VERY vague connection between the puzzle car and one of those names. Mustn't mislead you, but it's not the link you probably were thinking of).

Not a Merlin, but you're very close!

An engine intended for an airship?

It was designed for one main use, but not in airships.

Yes. It was a Rolls-Royce engine with a specific name which was built for a purpose other than a car engine.

The chassis is American. The car was built elsewhere.

It's Rod Hadfield's Warman Special built in Australia ..... and surprisingly it took some finding. There are so many aero engined cars!

The basis for the chassis is a Packard, and it is a full size version of a model his grandfather built in the 30's.

Rod Hadfield is a prolific car builder - he also built a Merlin engined 55 Chevrolet, and a Fiat Topolino with an 8 litre V12 la France fire engine motor.

That's the car. Well found. I agree with you that there are a heck of a lot of these aero-engined specials around, and it's hard to keep track of them. The chassis is from a 1932 Packard, and the Meteor engine came from a Centurian tank.
