Following your clues, I was just trying names of Italian firms that build prototype cars but are not very well known outside the industry and don't usually produce cars with their name on them (unlike, for example, Stola -now Blutec- or I.DE.A). Now that you have confirmed it was Cecomp, I have found some webpages that do talk about how Cecomp built the prototype for Matra. But I'm still curious to know what your source for the picture was, because from your reply to cmetisse it seems that it didn't say anything about the link between this car and Matra, and that seems so strange to me. It's baffling that Cecomp would present this anywhere as their own creation with no mention of the client it was for (especially since at the time it was slated to go into mass production!). BTW, it was the Matra M72 that was presented at the Paris show in 2000 (there was no show in 2001, as Paris only takes place on even-numbered years). A second version was presented at Geneva in 2002. That also makes me wonder where this "stripped down" version (no boot, no side-protection bars, different wheels and mudguards) was shown.
